I would like to elaborate on the statement I made in the previous post which read "(God) sees you forever in unconfessed sin" There is special emphasis on the word "unconfessed" in this sentence. The beauty of admitting the heinous nature of our sins to God and remaining in a state of repentance devastates our tendency to feel guilt and inappropriate shame about the crime. The price has been paid and when, through confession, we agree with God that an offense has occurred, His forgiveness generates within His mind a holy forgetfulness that, by His own volition, wipes away any memory of the offense.
This is astounding when you think about it. Are we not immensely capable of easily and readily recalling each felony. In fact, it can haunt us like an unwelcomed apparition. Praise God that though only time may alleviate our own sense of shame, He does not work that way. He immediately "remembers no more" this blot on our soul and washes us whiter than snow. This is the amazing power of the cross. It is why we celebrate it so.
Know this believer...no matter how far you have roamed into the distant country of your sin, like the prodigal son, you can always run home. And while you are still a long way off, spiritually penniless and fettered by a somber sense of your own shame, the faithfully forgetful Father runs to you. He puts a ring on your finger, shoes on your feet, a robe on your back and throws a party! And then you know for sure...you are not a slave...you are His child...and you are home! (Luke 15:11-32)
