Halloween? I Love It!

There is a chill in the morning air for the first time this fall, Overcast skies promise to give way to clearer conditions as the weekend wears on. I love October. It marks for me the beginning of my life...both of them. I was born in this month. It is also the month of Halloween. I love Halloween. Want to know why?

Halloween means "Holy evening". Holy indeed! Oh, that we would recognize exactly what we have been freed from...evil cannot touch this child of God! I have eternal life. No more fear...no more dread! Certainly this body can (and absolutely will) be killed but that only moves me into the arms of my Savior. Hallelujah! Probably not the sentiment, Satan is hoping for from me when he throws death and dread my way at the end of October. But I was not given a spirit of fear. I was given a spirit of power...His power. The power that endured the cross and overcame the enemy.

I'm aware of the devil's schemes. He wants to steal and kill and destroy me ...but it's too late for that! Jesus has conquered evil! It has been vanquished...and then for good measure, mocked at the cross, as He "made a public spectacle" of the powers and authorities that once held sway over me (Colossians 2:15). "O Death where is your sting?"...Indeed!

So bring on the "Holy evening". I will celebrate my Savior...and thank the enemy for the reminder of just how great a gift my freedom really is!
