State of the Heart Address

Just arrived home from the hospital after a morning dizzy spell created a need to take a closer look at the amazing ability of the beating heart. I will be fine. A day spent in the emergency room causes one to appreciate the irony of being referred to as a "patient". Strangely, I find within me gratitude for this rare experience. I also marvel at the efforts of medical personnel and their ability to diagnose and treat a variety of physical conditions for a fairly im"patient" group of people. It really creates opportunity for the follower of Jesus to zig when everyone else is zagging.

What have I learned from this? I guess I would say that (at the risk of being very obvious) today's venture gives me pause to reflect a bit. I follow my physician's lead and do an examination of the condition of the "other" heart. My Savior says, "blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God." Have I considered what this means? To glimpse the Almighty and be forever changed by the experience. Let this be the cadence of my heartbeat...the meditation of my mind.

One heart will eventually fail me...this is a Biblical certainty...the other will live with our God forever...until that glorious day arrives, let this be my prayer: Oh that I may cleanse my hands of sin...purify my heart of double-mindedness and prefer the savory sweetness of seeing God.
