Joyful Sorrow

I have been struck today in my reading of the battle over a right response to God's unconditional love for humanity. I have read the awry writings of those who would stand with a fist in the face of God and dare Him to disturb the perverse path they have chosen for their life journey. I may have been even more astounded at the disdain for these fist-shakers proffered by those who claim allegiance to the King of Kings, almost applauding the coming destruction that awaits those who would scoff at the God they worship.

So what is to be our response as a body of believers at Clearwater? How should we respond to this onslaught of indifference to Christ's atoning sacrifice as though His gift should be equated to a subway musician delighting passengers with his dirge. It is pleasant sounding but I am not obligated. Two words... joyful sorrow. An allowance of the heart that conjures crying rather than callousness...sympathy rather than cynicism. Let our cries be heard from our knees for a world that does not treasure the greatest Treasure.

Relieved to turn to one of my favorite..."favorites" and read a word that echoes within the deepest part of my soul. My heart beats in cadence with this sentiment.

"We do not smirk at the misery or the merrymaking of immoral culture. We weep. Being pilgrims does not mean being cynical. The salt of the earth does not mock rotting meat. Where it can, it saves and seasons. And where it can’t, it weeps." - John Piper
