Convenience is getting a little ridiculous I think. Consider our family's weekend excursion if you will. Saturday was just another Saturday, but this was the first Saturday of the 44th year of life for me so that makes it kind of special, I guess. But what makes a day really special is the people with whom you share it...amazing how the mundane is made memorable by a little time spent together, and what better way to make some memories than in one of those members clubs. You know those places where you can buy gas for three cents a gallon cheaper than a usual filling station, but then burn the .60 savings while waiting in the long line because evidently everybody else had the same idea. I've got to say though, the warehouse angle is sort of cool this time of year with all the seasonal gizmos and gadgets lining the warehouse walls and the retired ladies peddling their dentist-cup portions of the latest finger fare. If you're smart, you go at the meal time of your choice and appetize on those goodies...then head to the front of the building and step up to the deli area with its substantive cuisine. The lady in the hair net. will take your order and serve up a slice of pizza big enough to feed a family of 16 and an 82 ounces of Cherry Coke in a styrofoam cup that says "Hefty Gulp" on the side...free refills. All this'll set you back about a buck fifty. Then you can top off with a free snickerdoodle from the bakery. In the book section you can browse the best-sellers and flip through a huge picture book about WWII aircraft. Get your drug prescription filled and new extended-wear contacts while you wait and then snag that laundry detergent in the 55 gallon drum? There's usually a family-friendly movie playing on one of the HD flat screens that'll distract little eyes while you hide Christmas gifts in the bottom of the push cart. Sore back? Take a test drive in the vibrating recliner with 4 settings that's on display and let it melt away the stress caused by the guilt you feel because you know good and well you have no intention of actually buying the chair. Then load up and head home. It makes for quite a day. Probably not as good as a day at the beach, but you've gotta love any place where you can purchase a bag of frozen chicken strips and a set of radials under the same roof.
