When you get a second sit down and read this blog along with John 9...“The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day,” (Prov. 4:18). The blind man in our chapter is evidence of this truth. His journey in the “light” stands as a beacon for all believers. When Jesus, The Light of the World, approached him in his blindness, he responded with a heart of belief. He then became the light of the world and shone like a supernova...like a star in the universe unafraid to keep it burning bright regardless of the consequences. Wow! Each time we read his story, we are encouraged to respond accordingly, thereby becoming the fruit of his effervescence...and that's what a believer is. One who has light in his heart (2 Cor. 4:6)...who is a light in the world ( Matt. 5:14 )...who walks in the light ( 1 John 1 ) and who produces the fruit of light ( Eph. 5:8–9 ). Consider for a moment this man’s “Lord, I believe!” It was the turning point in his life just as it is ours.
But the same light that leads one person can blind another (vv. 39–41 ). The greatest light source to our planet is the sun. With its radiant heat it can soften things and harden things...it can melt and it can bake. The Pharisees eyes were wide open and they couldn't see a thing Jesus was doing as He once again brought sight to the blind. The parents missed it as well. The Gospel brings about different reactions from different kinds of hearts: the blind can receive the truth and see with eyes wide open; the self-righteous will reject the truth and relish the darkness. Just as thought. I'd love to hear yours?
