If you're looking for some fun family activities I'd like to recommend a few inexpensive alternatives that we (the "Harris 6") really enjoyed:
Drive-in Movie - There are two to choose from (both north and south of the city) and you can bring your own food and drinks (a nice break from the whole $7.50 for a box of Junior Mints after the $9.50 movie ticket price) usually a pretty good current movie you'd find in the theaters is on the docket...Note to all those not wanting to be "bug-fodder": Take the spray...lots of deet!
Minor-league baseball game - They are extremely family friendly, and you can always find a "special" night when something cool is happening, like a free concert after the game. We chose .25 cent hot dog night and a free petting zoo. They also had inflatables for a nominal fee when the game got boring for those who are 7-years-old and sooo not baseball enthusiasts.
State park - At 3 bucks a head, it's a great way to go to the beach. There is also a BMX track and wild-life rescue center. The water fall is also something not to be missed...especially after a big rain. The sound alone conjures thoughts of a huge and majestic God which can make for a wonderful teaching moment.
Water-theme park - There's one close by and it's a great way to cool off during the summer swelter. Not as inexpensive as the other offerings, but we found the price to be well worth it.
Honorable mentions - Bowling with the bumpers up (so nobody gets left behind)...Pizza at that place with the mouse and all the fun games (kids dig the tokens)...Picking peaches (or you "pick" - pun intended- the fruit of choice) on the farm.
Happy family time.
