Positionally Speaking

Uriah...a guy who's usually overlooked as the hapless sidebar in the story of David and Bathsheba. Truth is Uriah is a man that honored his king, his wife, his country and his God by living a life of character and integrity. As we move Uriah from the periphery to the focus of this story in II Samuel 11, we get a glimpse of what it means to love from a position of selflessness.

Being in the right position is the key to successful loving. This was David's issue from the beginning of the chapter. He was out of position. The story tells us that in the time of year when kings go out to battle, David (the king) was sitting on his couch at home. But it wasn't just a problem with "house position". More importantly, it was an issue of "heart position". David...a man after God's own heart" had a spiritual ticker that wasn't beating in cadence with his God's, and it cost him dearly.

But the purpose of this post isn't to bash Israel's greatest king...I simply want to point out the importance of aligning our hearts with the heart of Jesus, just as Uriah did...just as David would do in the repentant days to come. Have you found yourself living out of position? It can cost you when playing chess, tennis, basketball, football and many other activities. But there is hope. If you've found yourself out of heart position in trying to live the Christian life consider these who allowed God to restore their hearts for right living...

Moses - committed murder yet was called the most humble man who ever lived...Jonah - rebelled against God's call yet saved a city with his message of repentance...Peter - betrayed his best friend yet was called by Jesus to lead the first century church. God does great things with those who were once out of position...He'll do it with you...are you ready?
