Like a Sweet Perfume

In June the year of '94 I met a soul so rare
That what was true of life before quite simply won't compare

To what I found in that one girl as I have pondered deep
And gazed upon the finest pearl that ever man would keep

And so I asked her for her hand, and she placed hers in mine
There I secured a wedding band, to share this love divine

And for a season we were two, and with each passing hour
We were content as this love grew, by our Lord's grace and pow'r

But something more has happened now, to bring our hearts these joys
As one by one God's grace somehow, has placed two girls…two boys

Within our charge and who could know, the mystery of this
To grant the gift of sculpting souls through love and tenderness

And though I knew I loved her then, to breathe this rose full bloom
The aroma has time and again been like a sweet perfume

For motherhood becomes her sure, her beauty grows each day
As she displays a love so pure that never fades away

I've watched as tiny tears are dried, with gentleness and care
And firm rebukes would be applied, as they were needed there

And just the time when words need flight, but were in short supply
Her wisdom would provide the light, to bring an answer nigh

'Tis true she's made her house a home, immune from every storm
Regardless of her family's roam, t'will always there be warm

And so I point you here, my love, as this ode now is done
To words that come from God above…to Proverbs 31

Though charm beguile and beauty fall through all the passing days
My wife, you have outshined them all, so let your life be praised
