"And the things you've heard me say in the presence of many witnesses these entrust to reliable men who will be able to teach others also," These words were spoken by Paul to one of his "men", Timothy as he passed the torch of discipleship to his beloved apprentice. It's a calling I have as well. This passage found in II Timothy 2:2 is one of my favorites as it challenges me to pour my life...my longings...my heartbeat into men that I have come to love and trust over the past few years. We've committed together to meet 49 times in the next calendar year to study a particular subject frm God's Word...and to share our lives...our joys...our struggles...our petitions with one another.
So once a week, before the sun comes up, our Bibles come out and we place them on the table in front of us and absorb the truths that shape our lives and make us "reliable men". We won't always be together. There will come a day when each of us will take on a group of beloved men that we entrust with those principles we've learned this past year. I guess you could say we "meet to part" so that we may pour our lives into others. In fact, it's also true to say that we "part to meet", because someday we'll share eternity together with one another and with the Savior in the light of all that He has laid before us. But for now we have this challenge...to entrust this gospel...this story of Jesus, to reliable men so that they can in turn, pass it on.
