Memorable...Portable

I don't know if anyone knows this, but the address to this post contains the phrase "value God". It's a Vision Statement for a community of believers that are linking arms and doing life together. To know that if we have Him, we have all we'll ever need...or as it was so intimately expressed in one "indelible verse" - "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want" (Psalm 23:1). To be so tethered to His Name...His renown...His glory that all other pursuits become trivial by comparison. To value God above all else...easy to utter...tough to carve out in the daily grind. But it's what I want to proclaim as a pastor...to live as a follower...to breath as a child of the King. To know Him...to show Him...as infinitely valuable...immeasurably wonderful...without equal in worthiness. But there might be a problem...is it too simplistic? Aren't Vision Statements supposed to be long paragraphs with big words that are framed and hanging on the wall in the foyer of the church? Are they not written in calligraphy and so church-wordy and lofty that an ivory tower theology degree is required to decipher its sacred meaning? Nah. We could word it that way, but no one would remember it...and that's what I want people to do...remember it. I so want people to know it...to claim it...to live it. Some of you reading this post go to the same church that I do. You probably already know our Vision Statement, but let me give it to you one more time..."To value God above all else"...that's it...so portable...so memorable. Some Sunday...maybe this Sunday, I'd love to ask a simple question:"Can you state it?" How great would it be for those who read this post to be able to say..."To value God above all else"?
